Overview
At GTTS, our optic cuts are precision CNC milled to exact manufacture tolerances for your optic.
All of our cuts are designed to maximize radial surface contact on the front and back of the optic. To provide an even more rigid mount, we employ front indexing bosses (post) when applicable. This ensures your optic will remain firmly in place even when exposed to repeated cycling of the slide or any number of hard impacts that a pistol is destined to encounter.
Every optic cut at GTTS is finished off by threadmilling screw holes. Threadmilling, unlike hand tapping, is performed by using a tiny tool in the CNC mill which interpolates a helical pattern on the inside of the precision bored screw holes. Threadmilling ensures we get maximum thread engagment and perfect screw threads every time.
All optic cuts from GTTS include mounting screws. With a few rare exceptions, we use M3X.5 screws on every cut.
The Process
As soon as an order is placed, you will receive an email with shipping instructions. When we receive your slide, we will send you an email confirming we have received it. Occasionally, you will see the tracking number shows "delivered" but no email showing receipt of the slide. This happens when the slide is delivered after our last pickup/dropoff at our shipping company and you should see a confirmation email the next business day when we scan your order in.
The biggest part of the lead time is waiting for time on the mlll. As soon as your order is "up", it will be cut and immediately sent over for degreasing and surface prep. Typically this is all done in the same day.
The following day, Cerakote will be applied in the morning, it will be inspected in the afternoon and typically shipped that same day.
The exception to this process is DLC. DLC is not applied in house and we are required to send DLC slides in batches. At our current volume, we send slides to DLC every two weeks; typically on the 1st and 15th of the month. DLC takes 10-15 days to apply and your slide will ship back to you as soon as we have it back from DLC.
FAQ's
- Do I need to strip my slide?
- No, we can do that for you if you'd like. Just pull the barrel and guide rod and we will handle the rest.
- Do I need to send my optic?
- No. You are welcome to send your optic if you would like us to mount it but, unless we specifically contact you to request you send it, you can just send the slide.
- Can you just refinish "the pocket"?
- No. The most important part of Cerakote and DLC is that we completly strip the slide to bare metal and sandblast it to create a uniform surface for proper adhesion.
- I have a stainless slide, do I need to refinish it?
- We don't know the exact composition of every slide but many customers with stainless slides opt out of a finish. We have yet to hear of this causing an issue but we encourage you to periodically check to ensure no corrosion has occured.
- What is your current lead time?
- Our lead times vary but we strive to stay within 2-3 weeks for a basic optic cut and Cerakote. We do not take on a lot of "custom" work for this very reason. Custom work can bottleneck the process dramatically and we would rather focus our efforts on keeping lead times down than being featured on "Insta-Twitter".
- The optic I want is not listed as an option. Can you still mill it for me?
- If the optic you have shares a footprint with a listed optic, we can probably do it.
- If your optic does not have the same footprint as a listed optic, it is likely not compatible with the slide you selected. Feel free to contact us if you're unsure.
